Jack's garden is the garden of a true plant collector. The terracing around the driveway puts the plants at eye level, so you get an interesting perspective on varieties that you usually see only from above. Hosta 'Squash Casserole,' is one that Jack says "no Southern garden should be without." It's brilliant color and dark reddish scapes make a bold statement. Sculpture is also an important element in Jack's designs, especially from some unusual sources.
In the back, a piece of sewer pipe and some old machinery add a whimsical touch.
The hosta leaf sculptures were brought back on one of his trips to the Pacific Northwest. The color is crafted into the material. |
