Georgia Hosta Society

Leaf Show & Sale

As one of the oldest local Hosta Societies in the United States , the GHS holds the distinction of having the most local shows of any group within the American Hosta Society.
GHS holds these shows as an educational project to help introduce the general public to the genus hosta. Hosta leaves are displayed in vases and are judged by panels of judges accredited by The American Hosta Society.

A Hosta Show features literally hundreds of varieties of hosta leaves, displayed side-by-side and judged by American Hosta Society Master Judges.  Blue Ribbon winners typify the registered characteristics of each variety.  In addition to the cut leaves, there will be artistic arrangements featuring hosta leaves, container grown hostas and container gardens using hostas and companion plants.  Hostas are amazingly adaptable plants that lend themselves to many types of displays.

The Hosta Show will be open to the public from 10 am to 4 pm.

A special event this year will be Container Garden Demonstrations by Toni Wright.  Toni will show planting techniques, plant selection and tips on maintaining your containers.  There will be three sessions; at 11:30 AM; 1 PM and 3 PM.  Following each session, the gardens will be sold.  Proceeds will benefit the GHS.  In addition, there will be plants and containers available at the Plant Sale.

The Plant Sale will be open from 9 am until 4 pm in the rear parking lot.  Hosta vendors from around the Atlanta area will have beginner varieties as well as hard-to-find cultivars.  Japanese Maples, rare and exotic perennials, conifers and carnivorous plants are among some of the other things available.  Food will be available from Chick-Fil-A.

Person desiring to exhibit should plan to bring their leaves on Friday afternoon if at all possible.  Exhibits will be accepted from 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Friday and from 7:00 am to 8:30 am on Saturday morning.  Exhibits must be removed between 4 pm and 4:30 pm.  For a complete show schedule, contact HaroldMcDonell@aol.com.
